This project was a real pleasure to work on.  Cary and I discussed all of the features that would be required to get this project off the ground.  It seemed like a real uphill battle at first, but one by one we accomplished all of our goals for the website.  In fact, this is a highly feature rich site including customizable ad campaigns, beautiful frontpage displays, robust subscription options, and more.  It was truly nice to see this project take flight.

Davis Life Magazine was created as an online magazine to highlight food, fashion, people, business, and local events in and around Davis. Right off the bat, Josh got to work. Together, we found other websites that we both liked and picked them apart, noting what worked and what didn’t about each one. Josh asked many specific questions and made notes of exactly what I wanted. Each time he came up with an idea, we looked it over and then tweaked the idea to my liking.  Josh’s patience is that of Gandhi.

It didn’t matter how many adjustments I had or how long the process took, it was clear that he wouldn’t be happy until I was. The process of building a website (which I thought would be like spending hard time in prison) was actually fun. And, I have to be honest: It was great to have such an impassioned web nerd at my disposal.

What I ended up with was a website that went way beyond my expectations. I thought I would get a reasonable little dwelling to house all of my writing, but I ended up with the Taj Mahal.

Even after the site was finished, Josh was still incredibly helpful. He was there to answer questions, fix bugs and let me know when I was doing things the wrong way. Not only did he build a great website, he taught me how to maintain a great website.

What it comes down to is that Hi-Fai gives you highly personalized service with web designers who really, truly take pride in their work. To this day, I get emails from people asking who made my website and how they can get such a cool looking design on the Internet. “It’s easy,” I tell them. “Hi-Fai.”

So when Josh and I first started talking about him putting together a website, I pictured a simple site where I could show off some of my photos and maybe leave some text. What he delivered was way cooler than what I expected. It’s sleek, cool, has some great functionality, and most importantly it’s easy for me to manage myself. The site runs very smoothly, and on the few instances where there have been problems Josh has been quick to implement a solution.

Josh is a great guy to deal with, and I believe that he puts in an honest effort to understand his clients and their product or message, and works to tailor a site that fits the client’s needs and personality. I was particularly impressed by the amount of work he put into SEO details, which proved to be very effective. Not only was the work top-notch, but he was able to very clearly and effectively help me understand what I could do personally to improve my site’s rankings.

When the site was launched he gave me direct on-line assistance to ensure I understood how to use and manage my site, and to get the most out of what he’d made available to me. In the end I feel like Josh had a better handle on what I needed than I did myself! I have already recommended his services to multiple friends and colleagues, and will definitely do so again in the future.

This community organized site was created in order to build a platform for Davis locals people to engage in everything from politics to fun-filled events. Davis Voice set out to create just that, a vital and fair forum where anyone could join and share ideas respectfully.
